Ever since the 2022 T20I World Cup, Virat Kohli has played only two T20s, with both coming against Afghanistan. He also played in the 2023 IPL, where he scored 639 runs with two centuries. Before that, he was the highest run scorer in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Despite these good performances, he could be dropped from the Indian team for the 2024 T20I World Cup.

According to a report by The Telegraph, the Indian selectors believe Virat Kohli will struggle in the sluggish pitches of the West Indies. Chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, was tasked with the job of convincing Kohli to drop the format, but was unsuccessful.

The selection committee believes players like Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube bring more value to the squad. The BCCI is also more interested in keeping a younger team, which will be led by 36-year-old Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul is also the pick to be the keeper, ahead of Jitesh Sharma and Ishan Kishan

Jay Shah has revealed that the wicket-keeper is in contention for the 2024 T20 World Cup squad, especially if he can keep. The BCCI has kept an eye on Pant as he recovers in the NCA, and if he does well in the 2024 IPL, he could be selected for the World Cup.

He is batting well, he is keeping well. We will declare him fit very soon. If he can play the T20 World Cup for us, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us. If he can keep (the wickets), he can play the World Cup. Let's see how he does in the IPL
