Thailand women’s dug-out broke into a wild celebration when their team defeated Pakistan by four wickets at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, October 6.

Natthakan Chanthan was the star of the match with her 51-ball 61 runs studded with two sixes and five fours. Nareuemoi Chaiwai was the second high-scorer with her 17-run knock. Rosenan Kanoh and Nattaya Boochatham, in the end, took the innings in their favour.

In the penultimate over, 10 runs were needed to chase down the 117-run target, Kanoh smashed a boundary off Diana Baig’s ball, easing the pressure off their side and eventually guiding her team to win the match with one ball left. When the winning run was hit, Thailand’s team was overwhelmed with happiness as they ran onto the ground to the pitch.

We are very excited. Pakistan is a strong side. We want to beat every team but at the moment we just enjoyed our fielding and batting. I want my team to have fun and the win comes automatically. In the last two games, we didn’t bowl the correct length and line. Today they did it pretty well,” Thailand captain Chaiwai said after the win.

Talking about the match, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Sidra Ameen was the top-scorer with her knock of 56 runs off 64 balls. Apart from her, no Pakistani batter could cross the 20-run mark. In the end, Pakistan could score only 116/5.

Quite disappointed the way we batted. The batters haven’t shown the intent. Of course, batting let them down. The set batters were there and they weren’t able to put in a good score. 130 plus would be a good total. They didn’t show intent, that was disappointing for me as a captain,” Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof said after the match.

Meanwhile, Pakistan stands second on the points table, while Thailand is in the fourth spot.
