The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which is said to be the richest cricket board in the world is set to get richer as the International Cricket Council (ICC) approved its new revenue model. The BCCI is set to get a whopping 38.5% of ICC’s total revenue in the next cycle i.e. 2024-27 as the global governing body approved its new model at the ICC Annual Conference meet in South Africa.
With this, BCCI sees an increase of approximately 72% in its share of the ICC revenue. The Indian cricket board will be getting a whopping $231 million (INR 2000 crores) annually and $924 million during the four-year cycle as per the new revenue model approved by ICC. Earlier, BCCI earned 22.4% of ICC’s net earnings in the previous cycle (2015-23).
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah shared the good news with state associations via an email wherein he mentioned the whopping increase in BCCI’s share. Shah also lauded everyone for their collective efforts and the results they produced.
“The BCCI has been allocated a share of 38.5% in the new revenue distribution model approved by the International Cricket Council…As you are aware, India’s share was 22.4% in the previous cycle, which is now at 38.5%, a jump of approximately 72%…This achievement is a testament to the collective efforts and support of all our state associations and my colleagues at the BCCI,” Shah said (via Cricbuzz).

Why BCCI is getting such a big share of ICC’s revenue?
While everyone is focused on the fact that the BCCI is getting the largest pie of the cake, the Indian cricket board has well and truly earned it. After BCCI’s 38.5%, England Cricket Board’s 6.89%, and Cricket Australia’s 6.25% are the two highest shares a cricket board is getting from the ICC’s revenue. The difference is massive and there are reasons behind it.
As Cricbuzz reports, ICC signing a staggering $3.1 billion deal with Disney Star for its media rights has attributed to BCCI getting a huge chunk of the revenue earned by the global body. “This substantial increase can be attributed to the significant media rights agreement signed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) with the Indian broadcaster, Disney Star,” claimed Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, ex-BCCI Treasurer and current IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal who attended the ICC CEC (Chief Executive Meeting) revealed that Jay Shah convinced other cricket boards and made them understand why BCCI deserved the biggest share. “We want to improve our domestic cricket and the more our cricket improves the more we can feed world cricket,” Dhumal explained (via Indian Express).
