India’s new batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal has been making the headlines for all the good reasons. The 21-year-old became the 17th Indian batter to score a century on Test debut. Jaiswal left everyone in awe with his skills and most importantly, his temperament. With the maturity the batter paced his inning, it never felt like Jaiswal was playing his first Test.
Apart from his own temperament, Jaiswal also had the backing of his captain, Rohit Sharma. As revealed by the young batter, Sharma was continuously guiding as well as motivating Jaiswal during his stay at the crease. The 21-year-old also revealed that Rohit had fuelled him up even before the game started.
“Rohit bhaiya kept pushing me, he kept talking to me during our partnership. He was telling me how to play on this wicket what are the areas I can target,” Jaiswal told reporters after day’s play (via Indian Express).
“Before the game as well, he kept telling me ‘you have to do it, you are the only person.’ I was also thinking about what he has said and I was preparing myself mentally,” the youngster added while also stating that this is just a start. Notably, Rohit and Jaiswal put up a record-breaking 229-run opening partnership before the captain fell to Alick Athanaze.
Yashasvi Jaiswal dedicates his maiden Test century to his parents

The young batter then also talked about his inning and dedicated his first-ever international century to his parents. Jaiswal was emotional when he talked about his journey but did not stutter and answered every question with patience.
“Feeling pretty good. It was an emotional moment for me. For me, my family and all those people, who have helped me to reach this stage. It has been a long journey. I want to say thank you to everyone, who has helped me in any way in my journey so far. I want to dedicate this knock to my parents. Abhi khush hun, ye start hai aage bhi karna hai,” said the 21-year-old.
Jaiswal is still unbeaten at the crease with 143 against his name. The youngster has got Virat Kohli at the other end and Jaiswal will be eyeing a historic double century. If the southpaw manages to breach the 200-run mark, he will become the first-ever Indian to do so.
