“Yeh thoda jyada nhi hogya,” Mohammed Kaif, Munaf Patel question third umpire’s decision that ruled Rohit Sharma LBW out in MI vs RCB match

Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma is not having the best time in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sharma has managed 191 runs in 11 matches played so far and averages a mere 17.36. Sharma’s strike rate is also not so promising as the MI skipper has struck at 124.84 in IPL 2023. Rohit’s torrid run continued as MI locked horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday.

While chasing a target of 200, Rohit Sharma was dismissed LBW for 7 runs off 8 balls by Wanindu Hasaranga as the MI skipper came charging down the track. The RCB wrist spinner dragged his length back and Sharma was struck on his front pad in front of the stumps. However, the on-field umpire stayed tight-lipped and RCB had to ask for DRS.

This turned out to be a masterstroke as the TV umpire ruled Rohit out despite the MI captain coming a long way down the track. While RCB players were elated to see the back of the MI captain, Sharma wore a surprised look with a similar doubt in mind as many others on social media.

The first one to question Rohit Sharma’s LBW dismissal was Mohammed Kaif who thought it was way too overboard from the TV umpire. Former MI pacer Munaf Patel, India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, and others also joined.

Nevertheless, the dismissal worked in favour of MI as Suryakumar Yadav walked out to bat post this. The MI batter then tore apart RCB’s bowling lineup as SKY scored a 35-ball 83, his highest score in IPL history. Nehal Wadhera (52* off 34) and Ishan Kishan (42 off 21) also made crucial contributions. On the back of these knocks, MI defeated RCB by six wickets and jumped to the third spot in the points table.
