Former India pacer Zaheer Khan expressed his confusion over the recurring injuries of Indian fast bowlers as well as the serious injuries of the batters. Zaheer thinks something is wrong somewhere which is leading to these players’ injuries.

To start with, Jasprit Bumrah has been absent from India’s side for a long time as he is recovering from a back stress fracture. Deepak Chahar has missed a majority of the 2022 season and spent his time undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Prasidh Krishna is also out of action for a long time due to a stress fracture.

I am puzzled as you on this. You have mentioned the bowlers but there also are some batters who are having some serious injuries. That is something which is beyond my understanding and it has to do with the combination for sure,” Zaheer told the media during an interaction organized by Jio Cinema.

It is very difficult to pinpoint at just one word (to describe) exactly what is going on but I would say, yes, there is something going wrong somewhere for all these guys to get such big injuries,” Zaheer added.

Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami have impressed Zaheer Khan with their contributions in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Zaheer feels the pace duo has kept things simple during the powerplay and did not get caught up in the format.

The 2011 World Cup champion also feels that IPL shouldn’t affect Shami and Siraj’s workload much as the World Test Championship (WTC) is approaching and they should bowl as much as possible. India will be locking horns with Australia in the showpiece event from June 7 to 11 at The Oval in London.

“As a bowler, the more you bowl the better it is for you- that is the way I have always looked at it,” Zaheer said while talking about how one will be bowling 18-20 overs in a day and repeat it the next day as well in Test cricket, which is way too much as compared to bowling in an IPL match, and that is why, in terms of preparation, the workload should not be decreased.
