“He deserves to play IPL”- Zimbabwe tumble owing to Paul van Meekeren’s three scalps despite Sikandar Raza’s quickfire

Paul van Meekeren and other Dutch bowlers bowled out the Zimbabwean for just 117 in 19.2 overs despite Sikandara Raza’s attempt to drive his team to a defendable target with his quickfire on Wednesady [November 2] at the Adelaide Oval. Apart from Raza and Sean Williams, the other Chevron batters flopped with their single-digit runs.

Coming to the toss, Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to bat first. But they had a poor start with the bat, as they lost three quick wickets until Sean Williams’s 28-run knock from 23 balls nearly stabilized their innings, but Paul van Meekeren dismissed him in the 12th over.

Stephan Myburgh, in the next over, caught Milton Shumba‘s ball at the short mid-wicket during Logan van Beek’s over. Half of Chevrons had then headed back to the dugout for 77 runs.

Sikandar Raza handled the responsibility of guiding his team to a respectable target. He played a quickfire of 40 runs off 24 balls with three sixes and the same number of boundaries till Bas de Leede sent this big fish to the pavilion.

The ball was bowled on a length on the stumps, which Raza lofted but failed to connect well. The ball flew toward the long-on, where Fred Klaassen pouched it with some difficulties.

They had not reached the three-digit mark when Meekeren grabbed Ryan Burl’s wicket in the 16th over, followed by de Leede sending Luke Jongwe in the next over. Van Beek dismissed the last wicket of Blessing Muzarabani on the second ball of the 20th over to end Zimbabwe’s innings for just 117. Van Meekeren scalped two wickets, Brandon Glover, van Beek, and de Leede picked up two, while Klaassen grabbed one.

Meanwhile, the Chevrons have played impressive cricket in this tournament. They created a massive upset for Pakistan but faced a heartbreaking defeat to Bangladesh. They are standing fourth on the points table with three points from three games.

The Netherlands have been exceptional in the qualification stage but faltered in the Super 12s against top-class teams. They have lost three games on the trot, and now, they’ll want to give competition to the others in their remaining matches.
