Zimbabwe’s greatest all-rounder Heath Streak dies at 49, wife Nadine Streak confirms news

Considered as the greatest all-rounder from Zimbabwe, Heath Streak, died at the age of just 49. His wife Nadine Streak confirmed the news on Sunday (September 3). Streak had been battling colon and liver cancer for a long time and was undergoing treatment at the Johannesburg hospital.

In the early hours of this morning, Sunday the 3rd of September 2023, the greatest love of my life and the father of my beautiful children, was carried to be with the Angels from his home where he wished to spend his last days surrounded by his family and closest loves ones,” Nadine wrote on social media.

This came days after rumors spread on social media about his death. Social media users woke up to the news of Streak’s death and started sending condolences to his family until his former teammate Henry Olonga confirmed that the rumors were false by sharing a WhatsApp chat he had with Streak.

Heath Streak’s stats in international cricket

Heath Streak made his debut for Zimbabwe in an ODI match against South Africa on November 10. He then made his Test debut the next month against Pakistan. He has scored 1990 runs from 65 Test matches and 2943 runs from 189 ODI matches.

In 175 first-class matches, Streak has scored 5684 runs. And about his bowling stats, Streak scalped 216 Test wickets, 239 ODI wickets, and 499 wickets in first-class cricket.

He is the only player from Zimbabwe to have scored 1000 Test runs and took 100 Test wickets. Also the only player from the country to have scored 2000 runs in an ODI and took 200 wickets in the same format.
