Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has lifted the lid on his favourite IPL captain. The leg-spinner has named current RR skipper, Sanju Samson as his favourite IPL captain. Chahal has said that Samson is a calm and composed captain like Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The leg-spinner also credited Samson for his growth in the last year.

Chahal then also talked about his experience of playing under three Indian captains- MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. The leg-spinner said that he got the liberty one wants under all three captains.

“In IPL, Sanju Samson is definitely my favourite. I feel like he is literally very similar to Mahi bhai as like him, he is very calm and chill. The 10 per cent or whatever growth I have had as a bowler in the last year, it is all because of Sanju. He told me, ‘you have four overs, bowl whatever you want to, you are free from my side’,” Chahal told Humans of Bombay.

“I think, all three captains whom I have played under, I have gotten that liberty that a bowler requires, whether it’s Mahi bhai, Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. So yeah, that’s the one thing I have gotten,” said the leg-spinner about international captains.

Notably, Chahal was roped in by Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. It paid dividends for the leg-spinner as Chahal bagged 27 wickets last year. However, the wrist spinner is not having the best time in IPL 2023. Chahal has scalped 12 wickets in 7 games so far at an average of 18.08 and at an economy rate of 8.07, his worst after IPL 2016.

Chahal not consistent enough?

While the numbers might suggest that Yuzvendra Chahal has fared decently in IPL 2023 so far, they might be misguiding. Chahal, who is known for his consistency has failed to maintain it in this edition of the IPL. While he has taken four wickets in one game, Chahal has gone wicketless in a few.
