Shreyas Iyer last played an ODI in January 2023 against Sri Lanka. After sustaining a back injury in the 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy, he didn’t feature in the 2023 IPL, WTC Final and India’s tour of West Indies.
After a long recovery period, Iyer had his comeback in the 2023 Asia Cup. His comeback match was against Pakistan. He was set to play his first competitive game in over 5 months. He had retained his No. 4 spot in the team and returned to ODI cricket along with Jasprit Bumrah.
After India lost Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli within 9 balls, Shreyas Iyer came in to bat. On his 5th ball, Iyer had hit Haris Rauf to the left of covers for a boundary. Although Iyer got his boundary, his bat was damaged. The toe of the bat was chipped off, and Iyer had to replace his bat. He later got out to Haris Rauf 4 deliveries later.

Kishan and Hardik rebuilding India’s innings after top order collapses
With India choosing to bat first, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah were breathing fire on Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma. After a rain break, Shaheen picked up the first wicket for Pakistan after bowling Rohit Sharma.
Virat Kohli came in to bat, but lasted only 7 balls. Shaheen Shah induced an inside edge off Virat and bowled him. Few overs later, despite a good start, Shreyas Iyer was caught off of Haris Rauf’s bowling. Gill and Ishan Kishan started to build a new partnership but Iyer was bowled by Haris Rauf in the 15th over.
Currently Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya are on the field, trying to rebuild India’s innings. Coming in to bat at 66/4, Pandya and Kishan have now completed a 50 run partnership. With over 20 overs left, India still needs to put up a good target for them to defend.
