“Privilege, honour to play against him”: Rahul Dravid condoles Warne’s demise
As the cricketing world mourns losing its best players, BCCI shared a video of India’s head coach Rahul Dravid on social media on March 5. He was delivering an emotional speech after the demise of Australia’s two great cricketers Shane Warne and Rodney Marsh during the Test match between India and Sri Lanka in Mohali.
Both Warne and Dravid had had many fights on the field. But Dravid feels that his death feels very personal. After having the privilege to know him personally off the fields is one of the highlights of his cricketing career. The memories of friends they made and Warne’s ability to connect will remain with him now.

An honour to be able to compete and play against Shane Warne: Rahul Dravid
“Really sad day for the game of cricket to lose two legends in two days. People, who I think truly made the game what it is, who truly loved the game, is indeed a deep loss. Our thoughts are with both the families, all their friends and may their souls rest in peace.” Said Dravid.
“I didn’t know Rod that well, met him a few times but obviously grew up watching a lot of Rodney Marsh and hearing a lot about him. But I had the privilege and really, I think an honour to be able to compete and play against Shane Warne. But more importantly the real privilege of getting to know him personally and playing with him and alongside him as a colleague, I think that’ll probably be one of the highlights of my cricketing career.”
The spin-wizard Shane Warne died of a suspected heart attack on March 4 while vacationing in Thailand on Friday. Just hours before his death, the death of Rodney Marsh, former Australian wicketkeeper and batsman, flooded the news. He too died of a heart attack.
