PSL 2021: ‘Really looking forward to batting with Babar Azam,’ says Karachi Kings’ latest pick Martin Guptill

New Zealand opener Martin Guptill expressed his excitement after being picked by Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Karachi Kings. The 34-year old mentioned that he’s really looking forward to batting with the team’s ace batsman Babar Azam.

The second phase of the PSL 2021 is set to begin next month in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The defending champions Karachi Kings held the pole position in the Points Table with three wins from five games before the tournament was postponed.

The Kiwi batsman stated that Babar is a ‘world-class batter’ who has an impressive record in the shortest format of the game. Martin Guptill also heaped praises for KK’s skipper Imad Wasim who has done well at various T20 leagues across the globe.

“I am really looking forward to batting with Babar Azam, who is a world-class batter with impressive T20 numbers. My aim would be to provide a great start for the side along with him and Sharjeel,” Guptill told pcb.com.pk.

“We have a good leader in Imad Wasim who has played a lot of cricket around the world and has remained a top T20 performer,” Guptill added.

‘PSL is a quality tournament’ – Guptill

Martin Guptill asserted that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is a ‘quality tournament’ and he’s excited to field for the Karachi-based franchise. The Auckland-born looks forward to his side creating history by becoming the first team to successfully defend the PSL title.

“I am really looking forward to taking the field for the defending champions Karachi Kings. The PSL is a quality tournament and I am excited about my journey with the Kings who are a very good side, We have a solid squad with the likes of Mohammad Amir spearheading our attack, I really feel we can create history by becoming the first team to successfully defend the PSL title,” Guptill concluded.
