“Player like Jadeja should focus on his cricket”: Ravi Shastri points out two huge mistakes CSK did before IPL 2022

After Chennai Super Kings’ defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, former India coach Ravi Shastri pointed out some mistakes that CSK have made. He thinks that CSK shouldn’t have let go of South Africa star Faf du Plessis. He also argues that a player like Ravindra Jadeja should focus on his cricket instead of handling the responsibilities of a captain.

CSH have the worst start this year for the first time since IPL 2008. With zero points, they are at the bottom of the points table. Ahead of the 15th edition of IPL this year, MS Dhoni stepped down from captaincy and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was handed the rein. Ravi Shastri said that if Dhoni “didn’t want to captain the side, then Faf should have become the captain.”

On a ESPNcricinfo show ‘T20 Time Out, Ravi Shastri said, “I believe, a player like Jadeja should focus on his cricket. If Chennai think about it again, they should have not let Faf du Plessis go because he is a match winner and played a lot. If Dhoni didn’t want to captain the side, then Faf should have become the captain and Jadeja should have played as a player. Because he (Jadeja) can then play freely, no pressure of captaincy.”

“Things could have been different for Chennai,” Ravi Shastri added.

Are CSK’s players out of form?

Only new recruit Shivam Dube is the team’s top scorer with 112 runs and Robin Uthappa follows him with 106 runs. Previous year’s Orange Cap holder Ruturaj Gaikwad is out of form and is struggling to make a comeback. With an economy of 8.48, Dwayne Bravo is the team’s top wicket taker with six wickets to his name. Jadeja just has one wicket to his name.

Just like CSK, their arch-rival Mumbai Indians have slumped to the bottom as well with four successive losses. CSK will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in their match. RCB have slammed MI in their previous match.
