Ravindra Jadeja
In an unexpected move, Ravindra Jadeja has taken over as captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Notably, Dhoni had been CSK’s full-time captain since the competition’s inception in 2008. In his absence, former batsman Suresh Raina led the yellow army in a few games.
As a result, Ravindra Jadeja becomes the CSK franchise’s second full-time captain. The all-rounder has been on a roll recently, and his IPL record is also impressive. Furthermore, he has been with the CSK team since the 2012 season. MS Dhoni handed over the reins to Ravindra Jadeja because Raina is no longer a member of CSK. CSK’s official website confirmed the same. It should be noted that Dhoni will continue to bat for the team as a wicketkeeper.
MS Dhoni hasn’t made much of an impact with the bat in the last two IPL seasons

For the uninitiated, Ravindra Jadeja was CSK’s first retention ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, with the four-time champions shelling out INR 16 crore to keep his services. Dhoni, on the other hand, was the team’s second retention, receiving INR 12 crore. Notably, the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman, who will retire from international cricket in August 2020, hasn’t made his bat speak much in the last two IPL seasons.
In fact, CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in 2020. Nonetheless, the Chennai-based team came back to win the title in the 2021 season. Ravindra Jadeja was instrumental in leading the team to victory, putting up match-winning performance after match-winning performance. Although Dhoni struggled with the bat in the 14th season, his strategic thinking and decision-making helped the team.
All the while, CSK, who will contend for their fifth IPL title in 2022, will begin their campaign on March 26 against last season’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders.
