IPL 2022: RCB signs 18-year-old uncapped Afghanistan spinner Izharulhaq Naveed as a net bowler

IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore signed the uncapped Afghanistan spinner Izharulhaq Naveed as a net bowler ahead of the upcoming IPL season in 2022 starting 26 March.

The 18-year-old confirmed that he will be joining the RCB team as a net bowler by posting a selfie with the RCB jersey on his Instagram. His bowling at the ICC Under-19 World Cup was excellent as he scalped four wickets in six games at an economy rate of 3.63. His being with the RCB team will be a learning experience as he’ll bowl against the likes of elite players, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Faf du Plessis.

Virat Kohli, who had stepped down from RCB’s captain last year is set to play under South Africa’s former captain Faf du Plessis ahead of this year’s season. Du Plessis had represented the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for nine seasons. Kohli acknowledged the reason why du Plessis was picked up at the mega-auction this year. The biggest reason, as Kohli has highlighted upon, was that the team was looking for a ‘leader’ and du Plessis will fit the place well.

Kohli said in a video shared by RCB on YouTube “I am absolutely ready. I messaged him as soon as he was picked by RCB. Sounded him a little bit on what’s to come. I knew getting Faf in the auction, the plan was very clear. We needed a leader who commands a lot of respect in the dressing room. He has been a Test captain; the profile comes with a lot of accolades already. Absolutely exited for him to lead RCB this year, we get along really well.”

RCB will start their campaign against Punjab Kings on March 27 at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai. CSK will take on KKR on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
