India is facing New Zealand in a virtual knockout match in the T20 World Cup and the top order has disappointed yet again against the Kiwis. India decided to try a different top-order combination with Rohit Sharma at three and Ishan Kishan opening with KL Rahul. The move didn’t seem to bear fruit as Kishan departed early.

In at number three, Rohit Sharma almost gave the Indian fans a heart attack as he handed New Zealand an easy chance only for Adam Milne to drop it at fine leg. On the very first ball he faced, Rohit played his trademark hook shot but straight to the man at deep. Unfortunately, Milne failed to hold on to the catch.

While Rohit survived the early scare, his wife Ritika Sajdeh and all of India had their hearts in their mouth. Ritika’s reaction was caught in the camera it accurately depicted how every Indian fan felt at the moment, scared, helpless and at the end thankful for the opportunity.

Although Rohit Sharma got a lifeline on the very first ball, he couldn’t make the most of it as he departed shortly after. He mistimed an Ish Sodhi delivery to be caught out at long-on at the score of 14. Rohit’s wicket saw India slump to 40 for 3 in just eight overs as their poor run against the Kiwis in the World Cup continues.

India will have to do exceptionally well to turn the tables from here on. While a big score is looking unlikely, the onus will be on the bowlers to pull a rabbit out of the hat and salvage the match. The Men in Blue will have big expectations from Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja to deliver the goods with the bat.
