“Rohit is not my captain”- Young fan holds a poster during 2nd Test

Even if the current and the former Indian captain support each other, the fans are polarized when choosing their “best captain”. First, it was Dhoni versus Kohli, and after Virat Kohli stepped down from all-format captaincy this year, his fans just cannot accept the decision of Rohit taking his position.

On Monday, March 14, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, during the pink ball Day-Night Tests between Sri Lanka and India, a cricket fan dad who was attending the game, posted a picture. The picture showed his kids holding a poster, now a viral one, that reads: “Rohit is #NotMyCaptain. Re-instate Kohli #GOAT.”

The debate between the greatness of the two players, once again, began to heat up between the Kohli-Sharma fans on Twitter. The Sharma-fans started criticizing the picture and explained how India stood in a better position after Rohit took the captaincy responsibilities on his shoulders.

The youngster’s father then went on to explain that their demands were for the Test cricket only. He also called Rohit a GOAT player in a white ball and hoped the ‘Hitman’ to win the trophy for both the ODI and T20 World Cup in 2023. He amended again by showing a pic of Sharma-Kohli fans seated together in the stands. Seeing intense criticism, he deleted the original tweet later.

During the show “Breakfast with Champions”, Kohli had mentioned that in his initial days, when both of them were the new players in the scene, he was intimidated by Sharma. Kohli explained this in Hindi: “I’m also a young player, so what is the new guy everyone is hyped about?” But praised him after watching his game in the T-20 World Cup: “It’s amazing. I haven’t seen anyone time it better than him.”
