Rohit Sharma, ahead of the post-match presentation, looked frustrated after Mumbai Indians’ defeat by the Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday, April 6 at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

It was Mumbai Indians’ third match in the IPL 2022, and they have lost it following Pat Cummins’ onslaught. After setting up a target of 161, MI bowlers took care of KKR’s top orders. When Tymal Mills dismissed Andre Russell and KKR needed 61 runs in less than seven overs, MI must have expected their first victory in the tournament.

But MI’s hopes were shattered by the Australian all-rounder Pat Cummins. An in-form Cummins has recently joined KKR after Australia’s tour in Pakistan. He didn’t even play KKR’s full innings as his fastest joint-fifty off 14 deliveries, helped KKR win the match with 5 wickets in 15th over itself.

Cummins didn’t spare the MI bowlers because when Jasprit Bumrah was called in to dismiss Venkatesh Iyer-who also scored an unbeaten 50- Cummins hit him for a six and a four. In the last over, KKR needed only 35 runs. And then happened the impossible. Daniel Sams was given the ball and Cummins kept on smashing him and in 6 balls, an unthinkable 35 was scored.

Rohit Sharma’s frustration was clearly visible on his face as well as the way he behaved. Ahead of the post-match presentation ceremony, Rohit showed this emotion when he wasn’t able to hear the question from one of the commentators, Danny Morrison, and asked to increase the volume.

“This will be hard to digest”- Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma praised Pat Cummins over his exceptional knock and lamented over their bowlers who couldn’t do according to the plans.

He said: “Never expected him to come and play like that. Lot of credit. The pitch got better and better to bat as the game went on. It was holding up initially. Overall, it was a good pitch. With the bat we did not start well, in the last 4-5 overs to get 70+ was a great effort from the batting unit. We did not bowl according to the plan. We had the game till the 15th over, but the Cummins was brilliant.”

“Whenever you have runs on the board, you always have the upper hand. We had them 5-down, it was just a matter of the wicket of Venky or Pat, they had Sunil who could smash them. This will be hard to digest, the way it turned out in the last few overs. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us.”
