“Construct 3-4 grounds in your city,” Rohit Sharma’s savage reply to other franchises over home ground advantage

Rohit Sharma

Keeping Covid in mind, the league stages of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is played across four venues in only two cities, Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra. Many franchises have shown their concern that Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians have a greater and an unfair advantage as Mumbai has been the home ground for the MI team. These four venues are- Wankhede Stadium, DY Patil Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and the MCA Stadium.

At a pre-season media conference, Rohit Sharma along with coach Mahela Jayewardene denied any added home ground advantage. MI hasn’t played for the last two years in Mumbai and most of the players in MI have no experience in playing there. But his one particular reply over home ground advantage is very hilarious.

He said in Hindi: “Many franchises have said that MI shouldn’t be allowed to play in Mumbai. So, my opinion on that is that those franchises who are objecting, should construct 3-4 grounds each in their cities.”

He also talked about a disadvantage of not having their star batter Suryakumar Yadav for the opening game against the Delhi Capitals. Suryakumar Yadav is unlikely to be fully recover from a hairline fracture in thumb.

Rohit Sharma said : “We have no home advantage as we didn’t play any game in Mumbai in the last two years. Last year, many teams played matches in Mumbai. So, no advantage for us. It’s a new team. And I don’t believe in added advantage, and 70-80 percent of the squad hasn’t played in Mumbai before, so there’s no such thing as added advantage.”

“Only myself, Surya, Pollard, Ishan and Bumrah have played in Mumbai a lot, others have not. We are playing here after two years. We have not played a single game in Mumbai, in fact, other franchises have played in Mumbai last year, we didn’t. So, no advantage,” he added.
