The Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) parent company Diageo has donated a sum of Rs. 45 crore for COVID-19 relief in India. These funds have been contributed in order to ‘augment public healthcare infrastructure’ in one district of each and every state and union territory in India.
The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has been wreaking havoc in India and causing plenty of positive cases and casualties. More than 2 lakh cases are being reported every day and the situation is extremely dire in a plethora of states. At this juncture, such contributions and donations have helped in alleviating the damage.
Sportspersons have been at the forefront of such help. Indian cricketers have come forward to contribute funds and so have different Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises after the suspension of the tournament which also happened due to the pandemic breaching the teams’ bio-bubbles.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise took to Twitter to announce the news of their donation as they wrote, “RCB stands united with the citizens of India in the fight against the pandemic.” Through pictures, the franchise also explained how the funds would be used.
They wrote, “RCB’s parent company Diageo pledges INR 45 cr to augment public healthcare infrastructure in one district in each state and union territory of India. ” Further elaborating on their work, they spoke of setting up Swing Absorption oxygen plants in government hospitals in 21 districts, providing beds in 15 critical districts to increase bed capacity and donating oxygen equipment across 10 states to address immediate needs.
The Chairman of RCB and MD of Diageo, Anand Kripalu said, “At a time when the country is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, we want to support the government’s efforts and stand by the citizens of India. Long term medical infrastructure especially hospital beds and self-sufficiency in oxygen is what is needed most and we hope our contribution going into every state and it will help play a part in India’s recovery.“
