Rumours: Lucknow Franchise finalize their three draft picks for IPL 2022
Lucknow team owner Sanjiv Goenka and KL Rahul
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is all set to be a 10-team affair with the arrival of two new teams – Lucknow and Ahmedabad. The existing eight sides have announced their lists of retained players and the governing body has set January 22 as the final date for the newly-formed franchises to name three draft picks ahead of the mega auction.
Meanwhile, there have been numerous rumours around the probable picks of Lucknow and Ahmedabad for IPL 2022. Senior journalist K Shriniwas Rao, who is associated with The Times of India, has carried out a media report which talked about the three players who could join the Sanjiv Goenka-owned IPL team.
KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi might join Lucknow franchise
The veteran media person mentioned that Lucknow might rope in the services of Indian opening batter KL Rahul, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, and young spinner Ravi Bishnoi.
Rahul, who is the current vice-captain of the Indian cricket team, might even be appointed as the leader of the Lucknow-based franchise. On the other hand, the Lucknow team were earlier reportedly in touch with Yuzvendra Chahal and Rashid Khan for the spinner’s role but Bishnoi’s name came as a surprise. Similarly, not many were expecting Stoinis to be a part of any retention list ahead of IPL 2022.
“Ravi Bishnoi & Marcus Stoinis could join KL Rahul at Lucknow. I’m a bit surprised they didn’t push for Chahal or Rashid. But considering Bishnoi is uncapped, it’s understandable. They save money ahead of the auction,” tweeted the journalist.
For those who don’t know, Rahul and Bishnoi were previously associated with Punjab Kings (PBKS) while the Aussie was associated with Delhi Capitals (DC).
