IPL 2022: Shivam Dube’s 25-run over makes Virender Sehwag draw a hilarious comparison with Will Smith-Chris Rock incident
Shivam Dube
Shivam Dube, Chennai Super Kings’ all-rounder was handed the ball in the 19th over to restrict KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants from scoring 34 more runs off 12 balls. It looked like LSG had to do a lot till the end.
CSK were eyeing their first victory in this match after a mammoth total of 210/7. This decision of CSK to give the ball to the all-rounder in the penultimate over turned out to be a game-changer as Dube was plundered by Evin Lewis and Ayush Badoni and conceded 25 runs in a single over.
Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag took to Twitter and referred to the recent Academy Awards incident where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock and made an analogy with Dube’s over.
“He is going to get punished”- Gavaskar on Shivam Dube’s length-balls
LSG’s Ayush Badoni hit a six off Shivam Dube’s first ball leaving Dube in huge pressure. Dube kept delivering length balls, one after the another. The next ball was a wide one, followed by another wide. In the last three balls, Evin Lewis thrashed two fours and one six of Dube’s deliveries as LSG needed only 9 runs off 6 balls in the last over. Two wide balls were delivered in the last over’s first ball, followed by a six from Badoni’s bat and with one run, LSG eventually won their first point in IPL 2022 with a fabulous run-chase.
Starting their innings, LSG’s KL Rahul scored 40 and Quinton de Kock notched 61. Evin Lewis completed his half century with an unbeaten 55 off 23 balls and Ayush Badoni scored 19 off 9 balls.
Fans and cricketers alike had a say on Shivam Dube’s terrible over. Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said while doing commentary: “He has played a fair bit of limited-overs cricketer and he is still bowling those length balls. He is going to get punished. Of course, it’s not far that somebody who has not bowled so far is given the 19th over when the batsmen are looking to play shots.”
