Indian youngster Shubman Gill is among the most talented cricketers in the world. Within a short span of time since making his debut in Australia, the 21-year-old has secured a place in the national side as its opener along with Rohit Sharma. Despite a blip in form in the recent home series against England and the Indian Premier League (IPL), his experiences in Australia in his debut series as well as his solid technique is expected to see him be a mainstay in the Indian line-up.

For the upcoming final of the World Test Championship (WTC), Gill will be expected to open the innings. The match will undoubtedly be Gill’s biggest of his career provided he starts. The youngster would want to make his mark with a stellar performance in one of the most important matches in India’s Test history.

Shubman Gill spoke to India TV News about the influence of Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his role in encouraging youngsters saying, “Kohli tells us that we should play fearlessly and in our own way, in the manner we want to play. He always motivates us. He talks about mindset. Whenever it feels like I am not in a good frame of mind, I go and talk to him. He keeps motivating us and shares experiences from when he was a youngster.”

Speaking about opening the batting for India along with Rohit Sharma, Gill said, “Yes, whenever I am batting with Rohit bhai, we talk about where a particular bowler can bowl, where he is looking to get us out, what the situation is, whether we should not take any risk or if we are set, where should we try to attack, etc.”

The WTC final begins on the 18th of June at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
