Manish Pandey ran Akash Deep out
The quarter-final match of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2021 between Karnataka and Bengal was full of twists and turns. The match took place on Thursday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
Bengal skipper Sudip Chatterjee won the toss and opted to bowl first in the knockout clash. Team Karnataka managed to post a par total of 160-5 on the board at the end of their quota of 20 overs. Middle-order batter Karun Nair emerged as the top-scorer for his side with an astonishing knock of 55 runs off just 29 balls, including 4 fours and 3 massive sixes.
Most of the Bengal bowlers had a decent outing, especially Akash Deep and Sayan Ghosh. The duo recorded great spells of 1/23 and 1/27 in their respective quota of four overs.
Manish Pandey’s fielding brilliance help Karnataka book a SF berth
Coming to the second innings, opener Abhishek Das got out for a golden duck. However, they capitalised well from there with the help of a quick fifty from Writtick Chatterjee.
The equation was down to 20 runs needed off the last over with all-rounder Ritwik Chowdhury in the middle. He played some unbelievable shots as just one run was left on the last ball with Akash on strike. He hit the ball straight towards Manish Pandey who ran him out at the non-striker’s end.

The game ultimately went to the Super Over where Bengal could only post five runs after losing both their batters in four balls. Pandey and Co comfortably chased down the target in two deliveries to fix a semi-final against Vidarbha on November 20 at the same venue.
