T20 World Cup 2021: Ben Stokes predicts the two finalists for the tournament, Twitterati responds
Ben Stokes
England all-rounder Ben Stokes, who is currently out of the on-field action, has picked the probable finalists for the ongoing 2021 ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE. The Englishman believes that the ‘Three Lions’ might lock horns with Pakistan in the ultimate match of the tournament.
Stokes came up with this prediction soon after the nail-biting match between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Friday. The in-form Babar Azam-led side handed over a five-wicket defeat to their opponents to register their third victory on-trot in the T20 WC.
“England vs Pakistan Final ???” – Ben Stokes tweeted last night after the Pakistani side almost confirmed their semi-finals slot.
Twitter reactions on Ben Stokes’ prediction
Surprisingly, the 30-year-old didn’t consider the great likes of India, Australia or New Zealand. This didn’t go well with the fans as they were quick to respond and slam Ben Stokes for his early prediction. Here are some of the top tweets in reply to the southpaw:
Pakistan complete hat-trick of wins in T20 WC
The Pakistan cricket team registered a thrilling win over the Afghans in their third match of the Super 12 stage of the tournament on October 29. Batting first, Mohammad Nabi and co. posted a decent total of 147/6 on the board. In reply, Pakistan chased down the target with five wickets and an over to spare. Flamboyant middle-order batter Asif Ali emerged as the hero of the game for taking his side to victory by smashing four sixes in the penultimate over of the game when they needed 24 off 12 balls.
“I would like to congratulate the Pakistan team and all our fans. I look at the situation of the match, and I target the bowlers accordingly. I was talking to Shoaib when I walked in to bat and I told him that I was confident enough of getting 20-25 in one over against Karim Janat, which I did,” Asif Ali, who won the ‘Player of the Match’ award, said.
”Remember the name @AasifAli2018″ – Stokes had written in praise of Pakistan’s number 6 batter.
