T20 World Cup: “I see Rahul Chahar ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal” – Deep Dasgupta

Former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta has reckoned that Rahul Chahar is slightly ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal in the race for ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He further stated that both Kuldeep Yadav and Chahal are unlikely to play together for the national side in the all-important ICC event.
Chahal and Kuldeep were all over the opposition’s batsmen a few years ago in international cricket. However, since the 2019 Cricket World Cup, the duo has not been able to play many games in tandem and their performances have also dipped in recent months. Also, the absence of Hardik Pandya – the bowler has also hampered the chances for the pair of ‘Kul-Cha’ playing together in the national colours.
The cricketer-turned-commentator asserted that a lot will depend on the limited-overs series between India and Sri Lanka. The trio of Chahal, Chahar and Kuldeep is part of the 20-member Indian squad for the six-match series.
“At the moment, it looks unlikely. To be very honest, I see Rahul Chahar ahead of Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal). A lot will depend on the Sri Lanka series and obviously on the IPL as well,” Deep Dasgupta said in a reply to a question asked by a fan in a recent video uploaded on his Youtube channel.
“As for Kuldeep, he has not been the preferred bowler for more than a year and a half. So, it looks unlikely to me as of now. I don’t know what will happen in six months,” he added.
Both Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan should play against SL: Dasgupta
The 44-year-old mentioned that both Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan should play some matches as wicketkeeper-batsman against the island nation.
“I think both of them have earned their stripes, they should share the games in the series. Both of them have an opportunity for the World Cup, so yeah, if they are six matches, both should play [some of them] as wicketkeeper-batsman,” he signed off.
The India vs Sri Lanka 2021 series will begin on July 18 with the first ODI match at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
