Taliban’s takedown of Afghanistan has made all the headlines in almost every news platform across the globe. Recently, these political vows have entered the realm of cricket as well and that too in India.
Recently, a local team named ‘Taliban Cricket Club’ featured in a regional cricket tournament in Rajasthan. The multi-side competition is currently going on at the Bhaniyana village in the state’s Jaisalmer district. The actual region of the event is located around 36 km from Pokhran, an area dominated by the minority community (as per Times Now).
This makes it a sensitive area due to security reasons as the Pokhran firing range is located nearby and the movement of troops keeps on happening there on a regular basis.
Organisers apologise for the mistake
The issue caught everyone’s eyeballs when a scoreboard carrying the name of the team went viral on social media. As soon as the incident triggered an ‘unintentional’ controversy, the organisers of the tournament issued an apology for their mistake. The organising team members mentioned that the error took place this time due to online scoring.
As per a report by Times Now, the team was removed from the tournament after they completed their maiden match and a complete ban has been imposed on the same.
Several local T20 tournaments are currently taking place all over the country ahead of the much-awaited second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Afghanistan’s key player Rashid Khan will also be seen in action while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the cash-rich league. The 22-year-old has been quite vocal on the current political fiasco going on in his motherland and has been asking the international community to send their prayers and help for his countrymen.
