“5 Minutes Meeting Changed My Life” – Tilak Verma recalls how a chance meeting with Suresh Raina altered his viewpoint

Tilak Verma

Tilak Verma, the Mumbai Indians’ 19-year-old batsman, made a significant achievement in his second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Tilak Verma broke Ishan Kishan’s record for the youngest batsman to score a half-century for the Mumbai Indians. Tilak has performed admirably in only two IPL matches. Suresh Raina, also known as Mr. IPL, indirectly contributed to Tilak Verma’s advancement to this position.

Tilak Verma brought up the meeting with Raina. That meeting was held in 2014. Verma described how that meeting altered his destiny. Suresh Raina will have no recall of meeting Hyderabad cricket coach Salaam Bayash or any 12-year-old at Uppal’s HCA Stadium in 2014.

The next day, Chennai Super Kings were scheduled to play Sunrisers Hyderabad. During this time, Suresh Raina spoke for five minutes with Namburi Thakur Tilak Verma, a 12-year-old boy. A photograph was taken of him. Tilak was profoundly affected by this meeting. Verma, a 20-year-old left-handed batsman, will undoubtedly bring a smile to Suresh Raina’s face after an 8-year absence.

With a reverse sweep, Tilak Verma hit a six off Ravichandran Ashwin. ‘A friend of mine was the local manager,’ Bayesh recalled that day. I assisted him in approving the practise and brought Tilak with me.’

‘I remember Tilak being very impressed seeing Suresh Raina bat,’ this coach said of his disciple, who was included in the Mumbai Indians team. He didn’t take his gaze away from her once, and he scrutinized every shot of Raina. After that, we posed for a photo with him, and I believe that special meeting’ with Suresh Raina convinced Tilak to pursue a career in cricket.
