In the 50-over World Cup, on several occasions, a team, with sensational knocks from its batters, has crossed 400. South Africa, who posted a total of 428/5 against Sri Lanka in the 2023 ODI World Cup top the list of highest team totals in the quadrennial tournament.

5. South Africa vs West Indies (408/5), 2015 ODI World Cup, Sydney

In this match, Proteas great AB de Villiers played a breathtaking 66-ball 162-run knock to leave West Indies clueless. His knock, coupled with half-centuries from Faf du Plessis and Rilee Rossouw took the Proteas to 408/5 in 50 overs.

West Indies got skittled out for just 151 runs as South Africa won the match by a huge margin of 257 runs. Imran Tahir ran through the batting line-up to bag his fifer.

4. South Africa vs Ireland (411/4)- 2015 ODI World Cup, Canberra

South Africa once again crossed the 400-run mark in the 2015 World Cup. This time, against Ireland.

Two Proteas batters, Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis, slammed their respective tons to command the team to 411/4. Ireland could make it to 210 before getting bundled out in the 45th over. AB de Villiers and his men won the match by 201 runs.

3. India vs Bermuda (413/5)- 2007 ODI World Cup, Port of Spain

For India, Virender Sehwag rocked. His 87-ball 114 runs put India in the driver’s seat.

Sehwag’s ton, combined with Sourav Ganguly (89), Yuvraj Singh (83), and Sachin Tendulkar (57*), took India to 413/5. The Men in Blue then wrapped up the match by bowling out Bermuda for 156 runs to win the match by 257 runs.

2. Australia vs Afghanistan (417/6)- 2015 ODI World Cup, Perth

Aussie opener David Warner played a blistering knock of 178 runs from 133 balls. His century, plus Steve Smith’s 95 and Glenn Maxwell’s 88 drove the Aussies to 417/6.

No Afghan batter could even score a half-century. Nawroz Mangal top scored with 33 runs and before the team could even cross the 150-run mark, they got bundled out for 142 runs and the host team emerged victorious by 275 runs.

1. South Africa vs Sri Lanka (428/5)- 2023 ODI World Cup, New Delhi

South Africa met Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi in the 2023 ODI World Cup. For the first time, three batters blasted centuries in an innings of a World Cup.

Quinton de Kock (100), Rassie van der Dussan (108), and Aiden Markram (106) scored their centuries as if it were child’s play. Markram, after reaching 100 off 50 balls became the fastest batter to score a century in ODI World Cup. Temba Bavuma and company later bundled out Sri Lanka for 326 turns to win the match by 202 runs.
