Two banned Sri Lanka cricketers gearing up to play cricket in USA – Reports

Last month Sri Lanka Cricket dished out or year suspension to Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilake for breaching the bio bubble during the England tour. The governing body took stringent action after a video of Dickwella and Mendis smoking cigarettes on the Durham streets surfaced.

The trio was immediately flown back home where they faced an investigation. Following the enquiry, SLC handed the cricketers a one year ban from cricket. Along with the ban, a hefty fine was slammed on Mendis, Dicckwella and Gunathilake for their recklessness on the tour.

According to a report by Sunday Morning Sports, sources claim that the two players of the banned trio are planning to feature in the USA cricketing action. The report added that players are eyeing a three-year stint and will be earning $125,000 per year. The report also added that the players have got the backing of a legendary player to go ahead with the move.

The said arrangement is to play for the U.S.A. for $ 125,000 per year, for three years. In his inquiry, the player was proved lying to the disciplinary committee on a fatal accident which he had committed some time ago. Now he is trying to take on the SLC CEO over his punishment.

This legend is a good pal of the player-manager of the two players who now try to leave the country. The legend is well known in the cricket circles for playing covert double games,” the source said.

The USA has been the go-to place for cricketers who don’t see any future in playing for their country. Former cricketer Dilhara Fernando was one of the first Sri Lankan cricketers to take the route. All-rounder Shehan Jayasuriya earlier this year moved to the USA and informed SLC about his unavailability for any international or domestic assignment.
