“Varun Chakravarthy’s knees are not in the greatest condition; BCCI worried ahead of T20 WC” – Reports
Varun Chakravarthy
Fitness issues have once again popped up in front of India and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy. The 30-year-old, who was in the 15-member national squad for the much-awaited 2021 ICC T20 World Cup, has serious pain in his knees.
According to a BCCI source, the mystery spinner’s problematic knees are not in the greatest of condition. The report stated that the Board’s number one priority as of now will be to get Chakravarthy back in shape. However, if they fail to do so, the selectors have the provision of making changes to the UAE-bound squad till October 10.
“Varun’s knees are not in the greatest of condition. He is in pain and trust me, had it not been in a T20 World Cup, perhaps even Indian team management wouldn’t have taken the risk of playing him. To be 100 per cent fit, he might later require extensive rehab but right now, the focus will be on his pain management during the T20 World Cup,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying to PTI.
“KKR’s support staff has prepared strength and conditioning chart for Varun Chakravarthy”
The support staff members of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are currently monitoring and taking care of Chakravarthy’s troublesome knees.
“As far as I know, the KKR’s support staff has prepared an elaborate strength and conditioning chart for Varun, which is a part of his larger injury management program. He also is administered pain killer injections so that he can bowl his four overs without much difficulty.
“These are injections, till the time effect remains it helps the pain to subside. You can’t see it on TV, he looks in pain when he is not bowling and moving around the field,” the source said.
The Bidar-born has been in great form in the ongoing edition of IPL in the UAE as he has picked 15 wickets in 13 games. Moreover, his economy rate of 6.73 has been the highlight of his performance for the Knight Riders.
