Indian skipper Virat Kohli hasn’t been at his fluent best during the ongoing five-match series between India and England. The batsman is struggling to get going and make a mark with the willow. However, despite the lean patch, it is tough to keep the Indian cricket team captain away from the record books.

On September 3, Thursday, Kohli added another feather to his illustrious international career. The skipper became the fastest batsman to accumulate a whopping 23,000 international runs. The 32-year-old leapfrogged the former Indian skipper and batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar to name this remarkable record.

Virat completed his 23,000 international runs across all formats in just 490 innings. Tendulkar achieved the feat in 522 innings while the Australian legend Ricky Ponting is third in the list with 544 innings. A noteworthy point here is that apart from Virat and Sachin, the only Indian batsman to reach 23,000 runs is Rahul Dravid. Dravid reached the amazing number after batting on 576 occasions.

Virat Kohli completed 23,000 international runs on day one of the fourth Test of the five-match series at the Kennington Oval in London. The 32-year-old completed the milestone with a spectacular on-drive off England’s veteran seamer James Anderson.

Team India’s batting woes continue as the visitors suffered an annihilation on day one of the fourth Test in London. After 36 overs, India is reeling at a poor score of 83 runs after losing as many as four wickets. The opening batter Rohit Sharma was the first Indian batsman to lose his wicket.

Chris Woakes got better of Rohit in the ninth over when the right-hander was playing at a score of 11. Rohit was soon followed by KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara who departed at scores of 17 and 4 respectively. After three quick wickets, India played a gamble as they promoted all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja at number five ahead of Ajinkya Rahane. However, the move didn’t reap good results as Jadeja also lost his wickets after facing just 34 balls.
