It is no surprise that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has retained former skipper Virat Kohli ahead of the big action. While Kohli has stepped down from captaincy, he is all set for his new role in the side. Along with him, the Royal Challengers have retained Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj.

The retentions have taken many by surprise as RCB’s top bowlers of IPL 2021, Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal failed to make the cut. So did the charismatic opener Devdutt Padikkal who was being hailed as the future of the franchise. The picks also leave the fans in a dilemma over who the next skipper of the side will be.

In yet another surprise, Virat Kohli has taken a pay cut in order to help his beloved franchise. While Kohli was the highest-paid player in the league with a salary of 17 crores, RCB has retained him for 15 crores. With Maxwell settling for 11 crores and Siraj for 7 crores, the Royal Challengers are left with a purse of 57 crores for the auction.

Netizens are overwhelmed with his decision to take a pay cut. MS Dhoni too decided to make a considerable decrease in his paycheck as he chose to be the second player to be retained by CSK. The Yellow Brigade retained Thala for 12 crores while Ravindra Jadeja was retained for 16 crores.
