Virender Sehwag narrates an incident where Ravi Ashwin got an earful from MS Dhoni

India’s ace-spinner Ravi Ashwin has been hogging all the limelight lately. The veteran stirred a massive controversy during the IPL 2021 match between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. The heated argument between Ashiwn and KKR skipper Eoin Morgan once again ignited the Spirit of the Cricket debate.

The incident happened during Delhi’s batting innings. The off-spinner ran for an extra run when a throw by KKR fielder hit Rishabh Pant’s bat. The same didn’t go well with Morgan and he was involved in a war of words with the Delhi spinner. The entire incident has divided the cricket fraternity in half.

Former Indian batter Virender Sehwag also came up with his opinion on the whole fight between Morgan and Ashwin. Sehwag narrated an episode featuring Glenn Maxwell, Ashwin, and former Indian skipper MS Dhoni from IPL 2014. Sehwag revealed that Dhoni practiced the sportsman spirit by his heart and had once scolded Ashwin for crossing the boundary.

It’s the players’ responsibility whatever happens on the field should not be allowed to come out: Virender Sehwag

Sehwag recalled a game between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings from IPL 2014. While playing for CSK, Ashwin took the wicket of Glenn Maxwell, and as a part of his celebration, the bowler picked up some dust from the ground and blew it towards the Australian star. The entire episode didn’t go well with Dhoni and thus Ashwin got an earful from his skipper.

“When I was playing for Punjab, (Ravichandran) Ashwin dismissed (Glenn) Maxwell and then he picked up some dust and blew at him. I didn’t like that. But I never came out and spoke publicly about whether what he did was wrong or against the ‘Spirit of the game’, though MS Dhoni got angry and even scolded him.

“It was Ashwin’s wish to do that. And if any player spoke about the incident after the match to the media, or on social media, then that also would have become a big thing. It’s the players’ responsibility whatever happens on the field should not be allowed to come out,” Sehwag asserted while speaking to Cricbuzz.
