“Wait for 71st century continues” – Twitterati reacts as Viral Kohli gets out for yet another low score
Virat Kohli
It won’t be wrong to say that the Indian team had one of the best opening days in an overseas Test match against South Africa on Sunday. The Virat Kohli and Co ended with 272 runs on the board for the loss of just three wickets at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
Earlier, the visiting side’s skipper won an important toss and opted to bat first to pile a big total on the board. The opening pair of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal ensured to tilt this decision in their team’s favour with an outstanding first-wicket partnership of 117 runs. The latter got out for a score but the latter went on to smash an unbeaten ton marking his first 100+ score in South Africa.
However, the Indian team suffered a small setback when Cheteshwar Pujara continued with his poor form and got out for a golden duck. But captain Kohli joined Rahul in the middle to stabilize the innings with his sensible knock of 35 runs. The 33-year-old was looking all set to smash a big score to end the wait for his 71st international century.
But he got out while attempting to play a wild drive shot off a delivery pitching almost on the tenth stump line. Virat could only manage to produce a thick outside edge and the ball went straight to Wiaan Mulder at first slip as Lungi Ngidi completed his third wicket of the game.
