St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKNP) middle-order batsman Sherfane Rutherford was seen in utter anger during the recently-concluded game against St Lucia Kings (SLK). The incident took place during the 10th over of match 17 of the Caribbean Premier League (IPL) 2021 at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts.
SKNP stand-in skipper Chris Gayle won the toss and opted to bat first. However, this decision didn’t turn out to be in their favour as they bundled out for a below-par total of 118 runs in 20 overs. All-rounder Fabian Allen emerged as the top scorer for his side with a knock of 38 at number seven, followed by opener Devon Smith’s 28.
Coming to Rutherford’s dismissal, he was caught in a horrible mix-up with Asif Ali as fielder Roston Chase threw the ball at the non-striker’s end and Alzarri Joseph collected it to dislodge the bails. The Guyana-born, who is the second-highest run-scorer (201 runs from seven innings at 40.20) of the tournament, lost his cool on this as he was seen throwing his cricket kit while walking back to the pavilion.

Easy victory for SLK, Roston Chase smashes quick fifty
In reply to St Kitts and Nevis-based side’s 118, Faf du Plessis’s men comfortably chased down the target inside the 16th over. Despite losing the crucial wicket of Andre Fletcher on the first delivery of the innings, other St Lucia batsmen did well. All-rounder Chase smashed an unbeaten 51* off 38 deliveries, including 4 fours and 2 sixes. He was also awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
With this triumph, SLK climbed up to the second spot in the Points Table with four wins in six games. On the other hand, SKNP continues to lead the charts with five victories and two losses.
