Watch: Frances Mackay’s incredible run-out to dismiss Amanda-Jade Wellington
During the match between Australia and New Zealand at the ICC Women’s World Cup, Kiwi player Frances Mackay sent back Amanda-Jade Wellington after a brilliant run-out at the Basin Reserve.
In the 49.1 over, Lea Tahuhu threw a length ball and Wellington drives it towards and ran for a quick single. But Frances Mackay collects the ball and while she was still on her knees, fires an underarm throw at the bowler’s end. The ball hit the stumps and Wellington was caught well short.
Aussie’s top orders scored the most in the previous matches but against New Zealand, the middle order stepped up when their score was 56/3 in the 16th over. It was Ellyse Perry’s (68) long partnership (101 runs) with Tahlia McGrath (57), as the duo also scored half-centuries each. The brilliant diving catch of Maddy Green broke their key partnership. In the final delivery of the 45th over by Lea Tahuhu, Perry hit a giant shot straight over Tahuhu’s head. Green, who was standing on the long-on, ran towards her left and with a full-length dive, caught the ball. Not to forget the finishing touches of Ashleigh Gardner’s fast 48* off 18 balls that led Australia to score 269/8.
Mighty Australia stands at the top
Chasing the target of 270, Kiwi batters were reduced to 27/3 after nine overs. It was Perry first, who dismissed Devine with an intelligent piece of bowling. Teenager Darcie Brown, who just turned 19-year-old, ripped out New Zealand’s top-three and the Kiwi batters never recovered from this.
They were bowled out for a paltry 129 runs in the 31st over. Australia’s all-around performance gave them their third consecutive win after they crushed New Zealand by 141-run. With this win, the six-time champion, Australia, took the top spot, displacing India on the team standings and followed by New Zealand.
