Watch: New Zealand’s Maddy Green takes a stunning catch in Women’s World Cup game against Australia

New Zealand women cricketer Maddy Green pulled off a blinder to get Aussie batter Ellyse Perry out in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 on Sunday, March 13 at the Basin Reserve Stadium in Wellington.

Ellyse Perry was heading towards a grand total by herself scoring a 68-run knock and her 101-run partnership with Tahlia McGrath, looked unstoppable. But in the final delivery of the 45th over by Lea Tahuhu, Perry hit a giant shot straight over Tahuhu’s head. To dismiss Perry, a special effort was required but it was Maddy Green who showed the dangerous Perry her way back to the pavilion. Maddy Green, who was standing on the long-on, ran in towards her left and with a superhuman full-length dive, grabbed the ball horizontal to the ground. The catch has become a talking point of the day.

This year’s World Cup has witnessed some great athleticism on the field in just 11 matches and Maddy Green’s catch was one of them. The score of Australia was reduced to 214/5 in the 45th over after the brilliant dismissal of Perry. But the host team got a target total of 270 runs after 55 more runs were added by the Aussies.

Aussie’s top order scored the most in the previous matches but against New Zealand, the middle order stepped up when their score was 56/3 in the 16th over. Every member contributed from the Aussie’s side. Along with Ellyse Perry, Tahlia McGrath also scored her half-century (57). All-rounder Ashleigh Gardner‘s productive score of 48* off 18 balls finished the overs.

Chasing the target of 270, Kiwi batters were reduced to 27/3 after nine overs. It was the teenager Darcie Brown, who took three wickets for 22 for Australia and ripped the Kiwi’s top order. They were bowled out for a paltry 129 runs in the 31st over. The six-time Women’s World Cup winner defended their run easily and thrashed New Zealand by 141 runs. The Aussies now stand top at the points table, followed by India and New Zealand.
