WATCH: Odean Smith breaks Chris Gayle’s bat into two halves during second semi-final in CPL 2021

Speedster Odean Smith grabbed everyone’s eyeballs during the second semi-final match between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKNP) and Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021. The youngster broke legendary batsman Chris Gayle’s bat into two halves as the latter was just left with its handle.
The incident took place during the fourth over of the Patriots’ innings at the Warner Park Sporting Complex, St Kitts and Nevis. The southpaw was trying to slap the ball over cover when it shattered his bat.

Odean Smith has been one of the best bowlers in the ongoing tournament as the 24-year-old picked 18 wickets in 11 games, averaging 14.94. He continuously troubled some of the heavyweights of the league including the likes of Gayle and Kieron Pollard.
He ended the season as the second-highest wicket-taker, just behind Ravi Rampaul of Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR). The right-hander also recorded an impressive economy rate of 7.54 in the cash-rich league.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots stormed into the final
SKNP batters Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis powered their side into the final match of CPL 2021 with a victory of seven wickets. The duo recorded swashbuckling knocks of 42 of 27 balls and 77* off 39 deliveries respectively. Moreover, Lewis also won the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
Dwayne Bravo’s men are now set to lock horns with St Lucia Kings (SLK) on September 15, 2021, from 7:30 PM (IST) onwards. The St Lucia-based franchise had earlier defeated TKR by 21 runs in their semi-final match. Notably, SLK emerged as winners in both the encounters between these two teams in the league games of the tournament.
