Watch: Natalie Sciver survives after delivery from Jhulan Goswami fails to dislodge the bails
During India’s match with England at the bay Oval, one of veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami’s deliveries turned out unlucky as the ball had hit stumps without removing the bails.
England were playing for four runs by losing 2 wickets in 3 overs. In the fifth over of Jhulan Goswami, an unbelievable thing occurred which shocked team India. Goswami came and delivered a full-length to Natalie Sciver. The ball had hit the stumps, but unfortunately, the bail didn’t fall.
Team India’s batters couldn’t score match as they were bundled out for 134 runs in 36.2 overs only. From their side, most of the batters left the field with single-digit runs. Only two batters scored runs past 30- Smriti Mandhana (35) and wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh (34). England also struggled earlier while batting but with the help of their skipper Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver, they reached the target in 31.2 overs by losing 6 wickets.
But even after this defeat, the Indian team didn’t lose the top-four spot as they are still at the third spot in the eight-team leader-board score. But this match was crucial for the four-time champion England as they lost three matches and are at seventh place with two points on the scoreboard. India will play against Australia on Saturday, March 19.
Jhulan Goswami made history with 250 wickets
Jhulan Goswami reached a milestone after grabbing Tammy Beaumont’s wicket. She created history by becoming the first-ever woman pacer to claim 250 wickets in ODI cricket. She is way ahead in the competition as she is followed by Australia’s Fitzpatrick and West Indies’ Anisha Mohammed, both of them have 180 wickets under their names. She also became the first women cricketer by taking 40 wickets in Women’s World Cups, surpassing Australia’s Lyn Fullston (39).
“I think not just myself, but our entire team have a tremendous level of respect for Jhulan. You know, what she’s done for the game, not just for the Indian team, the whole of women’s cricket globally is just unbelievable. I certainly admire her longevity as well, and just how successful she’s been over such a long period of time. She’s such a talisman for the Indian team. She’s an absolute bedrock of that new ball. And it’s been really, really tricky to get away,” said Australian skipper Ellyse Perry.
