WATCH – Smriti Mandhana scripts history, becomes first Indian woman to smash pink-ball Test ton
Smriti Mandhana
India’s one of the finest women cricketers, Smriti Mandhana achieved yet another milestone after becoming the first batter to score a hundred in the women’s pink-ball Test. This came during the historic one-off game against Australia at the Carrara Oval, Queensland.
Smriti, who also wears the No. 18 like men’s team skipper Virat Kohli, matched her male counterpart in the process. Earlier, Kohli had become the first Indian cricketer to have scored a century in pink-ball Test, doing so against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens back in 2019.
The India vs Australia Carrara Test also marked the maiden Day/Night outing for Mithali Raj’s girls in the longer format.
The southpaw also had a little bit of luck in her favour as she was caught off a no-ball on the second ball of the 46th over. Later, she breached the three-digit run-mark on the fifth ball of the 52nd over off Ellyse Perry, she reached the historic landmark.
Mandhana now also holds the record of being the highest individual scorer for the team India in Australia across formats. In ODIs, the 25-year-old has the highest score of 102 and in T20Is, the highest of 66 against Australia women Down Under.
