Bowling is one of the most underrated jobs on a cricket field, especially in the shortest format of the game. In this, even a good over or spell can leave a drastic impact on the overall result of the game.

India’s franchise-based tournament, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the best T20 leagues across the globe. This cash-rich event has witnessed plenty of outstanding spells spanning more than 13 editions in over a decade. Most of the top bowlers in world cricket and here are the top 5 bowling performances in IPL since 2008:

Alzarri Joseph (Mumbai Indians)

Young West Indies speedster Alzarri Joseph holds the record for the best bowling figures in IPL history. The 24-year-old registered an outstanding spell of 6/12 in 3.4 overs during a game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. His spell came for the Mumbai-based franchise during the 2019 edition of the tournament.

Sohail Tanvir (Rajasthan Royals)

Former Pakistan speedster Sohail Tanvir features at number two in the list of top 5 bowling performances in IPL since 2008. The left-arm medium-pacer recorded a spell of 6/14 in his quota of four overs during the inaugural season of the cash-rich league. His performance came for Rajasthan Royals (RR) three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Adam Zampa (Rising Pune Supergiants)

One of the best leg-spinners in white-ball cricket, Adam Zampa recorded a brilliant spell of 6/19 for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG). This was produced during a clash against the Hyderabad-based franchise in IPL 2016 at the Dr Y.S.R. ACA VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam. 

Anil Kumble (Royal Challengers Bangalore) 

Anil Kumble, India’s one of the greatest spin bowlers of all time, appears at the fourth spot in this list of the best IPL performances. The legendary leg-break spinner claimed five wickets after giving away just five runs during a game between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and RR at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. The Mysore-born was also the skipper of the Challengers during the 2009 season.

Ishant Sharma (Deccan Chargers)

Finally, India’s current ace speedster in red-ball cricket, Ishant Sharma, registered an unbelievable spell of 5/12 in just three overs. This came for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers (DC) against yet another former IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK) in IPL 2011. This majestic bowling performance came at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
