India women’s national team has been sensational in the recent past. Several superstars have merged from the women’s team who have taken the game to great heights, especially in India. Although they haven’t been able to get past the Australian side in the ongoing tour on many occasions, the spirit with which they have played is commendable.
In the recently concluded ODI series, Australian Women ended up winning by a margin of 2-1, however, the second game was stretched right down to the wire, and in the final match, Indian women were able to thrash the Aussies. Moreover, in the historic pink-ball Test, the Indian women have started off brilliantly.
Punam Raut walks despite being adjudged not out by the on-filed umpire
Although the rain did play a spoilsport in the Test, the way Indian batters, especially Smriti Mandhana started off goes on to show how determined the side is. However, there was one particular incident that forced everyone in the stadium to simply admire the Indian team for upholding the spirit of the game.
Indian batter Punam Raut came out to bat at number 3 after the openers frustrated the Australian bowlers. Raut was well settled on 36 when she went fishing outside the off-stump for a nicely floated delivery by Sophie Molineux. The ball brushed the outside edge of the bat and the Aussies burst into a loud appeal.
However, the umpire thought that there was no edge and ruled in favor of the Indian. However, Punam decided to walk and every Aussie fielder, including the bowler, was left perplexed. Evidently, Punam’s gesture is getting a lot of attention on social media and fans are praising the Indian for upholding the ‘Spirit of the Game.’
