Australia’s Matthew Wade is a perfect example of determination, grit, and sheer will. It is only his mental toughness that pushed the batter towards representing Australia in the international circuit. Wade was only 16 when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had to undergo two rounds of chemotherapy.

The left-hander kept himself strong throughout and soon made a comeback into the game. Wade made his domestic debut with Tasmania and it was during his stay there that the batter received his first breakthrough. However, at the age of 19, Matthew Wade made a crucial move from Tasmania to Melbourne as he realized that Tim Paine was the first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman for Tasmania.

It proved to be a turning point in Wade’s career as a couple of scintillating performances saw him making his debut for Australia in 2011. The ODI and Test debut soon followed as he impressed the selectors with his power-hitting abilities. Wade was being seen as the next keeper for Australia after Brad Haddin.

However, the left-hander lacked brilliance as the keeper and a dip in his form with the willow saw him getting dropped from the Australian team across all the formats in 2017. Many felt that it was an end for the wicketkeeper-batter. However, Matthew Wade again made a move from Victoria to Tasmania to reinvent his career.

The batter then dominated the domestic circuit for two years and forced the selectors to include him in the Ashes squad for 2019 as a specialist batter. Wade repaid the faith of the management by slamming two centuries during the Ashes 2019 and soon found his way back to ODIs and T20Is. The 33-year-old will now have a point to prove as he was been picked in the 15-member Australian squad for the T20 World Cup 2021.

As far as his personal life is concerned, Matthew Wade is a family man. The attacking batter lives a peaceful life with his wife Julia Barry. Not much is known about Julia except the fact that she and Matthew have been dating each other since 2003. It was in 2013 that the couple tied the knot with each other in the presence of their family and close friends. They are also parents to two adorable baby girls.
