With flippers, skidders, and loopy deliveries at his arsenal, Australia’s leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson has carved his own path to the top. Making his debut for Australia in a T20 International against England in 2018, Swepson immediately drew a comparison with the legendary Shane Warne.

Mitchell Swepson tasted success for the first time in 2015 owing to his scintillating performance in the Sheffield Shield. Featuring in the 2015-16 edition of the Sheffield Shield Trophy, the leg-spinner enjoyed a golden run as he picked 17 wickets in six matches. An impressive performance helped the spinner is catching the eye of the selectors and he soon found himself in Australia A playing XI.

The 28-year-old carried his brilliant form in the A tours too as he ended up with a whopping 14 wickets in just three matches against India A and South Africa A. Seeing the phenomenal performances by the leg-spinner, it was hard for the national selectors to ignore his presence. Swepson was drafted in the main squad in 2017 against India but it was only in 2018 that he could earn his maiden cap.

So far, the Brisbane-born has donned the prestigious yellow jersey seven times picking 11 wickets at an economy rate of 7.52 and an average of 15.7. Overall, Mitchell has featured in 56 T20 games scalping 59 wickets at an average of 24.4. The bowler is drafted into Australia’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. Though he has little international experience, Swepson can play a vital role for the Men in Yellow if given a chance in playing XI.
