“Please wear a helmet,” Yuvraj Singh advises Sheldon Jackson in IPL 2022 to be safe while keeping wickets

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has advised Kolkata Knight Riders wicketkeeper Sheldon Jackson to wear a helmet when facing spinners. Sheldon Jackson dazzled everyone with his lightning speed behind the stumps in the first game of the IPL 2022 against the Chennai Super Kings. The 35-year-old Saurashtra stumper made headlines when he stumped Robin Uthappa despite the ball being outside the leg-stump.

A notable feature was that, despite Chakravarthy’s superior speed in the air, Jackson chose to fly without a helmet. When he saw this, former cricketer Yuvraj Singh took to Twitter to urge Jackson to begin wearing a helmet against spinners in order to avoid injury. He wrote:

“Dear #SheldonJackson please wear a helmet when u keeping to spinners ! You are a very talented player and have a golden opportunity after a long time be safe !!! And all the best #CSKvKKR #IPL2022.”

Many times in the past, a wicketkeeper has suffered career-ending injuries because he was not wearing a helmet. Saba Karim is the most well-known example. The former Indian cricketer’s career was cut short when he was hit in the nose while keeping to Anil Kumble in 2000.
