England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow was proactive when a few Just Stop Oil protesters invaded the pitch during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s. As England took the field against Australia in the second Test at Lord’s a few individuals related to the ongoing protest ran onto the field carrying paints and also threw some.
But Jonny Bairstow was in no mood to entertain any of them as the England wicketkeeper nonchalantly lifted one of the protestors and escorted him off the field. The 33-year-old exhibited some mad strength as Bairstow hardly broke a sweat while escorting the invader off the field.
The rest of the protesters were escorted by the security personnel. Bairstow had to then go off the field to change his gears. The play was also halted till Bairstow was off the field and it resumed once the England’s gloveman was back on the field.

Fans react to visuals of Jonny Bairstow carrying Protestor on his shoulders
This on-field antic from Jonny Bairstow drew quite a few reactions from the fans on the internet. While most of them could not stop laughing at this incident, a few took a cheeky dig at Bairstow saying he finally held onto something this series (Bairstow dropped quite a few catches in the first Ashes Test).
India off-spinner R Ashwin also reacted to the incident. “Good start to the 2nd test. Bairstow has done some heavy lifting already,” tweeted Ashwin while sharing the video of the incident.

This was an interesting turn of events, leaving everyone in splits. Quite interestingly, Bairstow had injured himself as he had tried to lift Sam Curran on his shoulders in the gym a few months back. Talking about the match, the start was delayed due to rain. When it started, England won the toss and invited Australia to bat first. The visitors managed to avoid any casualty before rain halted the play again.
