A 39-year old Cristiano Ronaldo, following a brace for his national side against Ireland last night, hinted at his retirement from the game. While speaking to Fabrizio Romano, he also acknowledged that he is in the final stages of his highly successful career.
The aging Portuguese superstar, who shows no signs of slowing down, will be leading the national team at the Euros in Germany, this month. Warming up for his sixth consecutive European Championship, the Al-Nassr star scored twice in last night’s 3-0 win over Ireland. This increased his international goal tally to a record 130 goals. Despite his age, the ex-Real Madrid star showcased how important he would be for the 2016 champions.
Speaking to Fabrizio Romano after the match, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner spoke about his immediate future with the Portuguese national team and beyond. He expressed his awareness that his football career is nearing its end, acknowledging the privilege of playing beyond the age of 35. Moreover, he also emphasized upon his physical and mental well-being, stating that he is fully prepared for the Euros. He expressed readiness to adhere to the coach’s choices.

The ex-Manchester United star, who currently plies his trade in the Saudi PL with Al-Nassr, has been representing his national team since 2003, with over 200 appearances. As he leads his country in another quest for European glory, the 39-year old hopes to end his much decorated career on a high.
