39-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo has shown no signs of slowing down yet. The Portuguese superstar recently made headlines for his antics in a 4-1 defeat to rivals Al-Hilal in the final of the Saudi Super Cup. However, the Al-Nassr skipper has managed to redeem himself with a performance nothing short of brilliant against Al-Fayha on Tuesday night.
The men in yellow were already 1-0 up when Anderson Talisca was fouled at the edge of the box. Up stepped the No.7 to take the free-kick, although fans later claimed that many were not expecting the forward to hit the target.
In an effortless motion, the veteran curled his kick up and above the wall and beyond the reach of the opposition keeper. The crowd erupted in cheers as Ronaldo celebrated with his teammates.
His free-kick goal marked an unbelievable 899th career goal. The player also had numerous chances to make it 900, although uncharacteristic misses kept his tally at one. Ronaldo later posted on social media that he is ‘only getting started’, hinting at his plans of not hanging up his boots in the near future.
Al-Nassr thrash Al-Fayha 4-1 as Anderson Talisca shines with brace
After a series of unfavorable results, Al-Nassr have finally found their form. An exciting encounter against Al-Fayha saw the visitors put four goals past the hosts. After Cristiano Ronaldo missed a 1v1 with the keeper, Talisca scored from close range to open the scoring for his side. The Brazilian was then fouled at the edge of the box, making way for Ronaldo’s free-kick just before the strike of half-time.
Marcelo Brozovic then converted his shot from a tight angle with a superb finish just 5 minutes from full-time. Sadio Mane put the midfielder through on goal, after which the Croatian buried his chance into the far right corner. Talisca finished off the game in style with a free-kick ‘much’ better than that scored by his captain.
The goalkeeper stood rooted to the spot as his blistering strike ended up in the back of the net. His left-footed strike went up and over the wall before making the opposition’s net bulge. With the win, Al-Nassr are now in third position and just two points behind League leaders Al-Qadsiah.
