To lose a final on penalties is by far, one of the most frustrating and painful ways to lose a trophy in this sport. Al-Nassr took on Al-Hilal in the King’s Cup final on Friday night as fans bore witness to one of the most exciting clashes in Saudi this season.

However, as the Saudi Pro League champions claimed their domestic double by the finest of margins, fans were heartbroken to see Cristiano Ronaldo inconsolably in tears after the final.

From last-minute equalizers to stunning strikes and howlers, the game had it all. Al-Hilal, despite being in control for the majority of the game, let their lead slip due to a late red card.

The nail-biting penalty shootout that ensued saw Al-Nassr miss out on the title in a sudden death sequence. As Al-Hilal players danced their way onto the pitch, the cameras spotted a distraught Ronaldo. The No.7 broke down in tears as teammates and staff surrounded their captain to console him.

Ronaldo undoubtedly gave it his all, scoring his penalty and making multiple attempts on goal to bring his side into the game. Ronaldo attempted an outrageous bicycle kick which unluckily hit the post and went wide of the goal.

No football fan wants to see their favorite player in tears, that too after losing a final. Ronaldo fans were in for a long day after the King’s Cup final came to an end as Cristiano Ronaldo and co. were on the losing side yet again. To make things worse, it was their arch rivals Al-Hilal who lifted the trophy.

A fan commented that Ronaldo’s tears made it even more sweet for those who tuned in only to see Al-Nassr lose. Others felt that Ronaldo’s reaction was a bit ‘too much’ and laughed at how he was treating it like a World Cup final. Fans of Ronaldo’s Argentine rival were quick to troll the player, citing how they mocked Lionel Messi for crying after losing the Copa America final in 2016.

Another chipped in, claiming that there wasn’t anything more painful in football than to see one’s favorite player break down in tears. In response to the same, a fan claimed that Ronaldo gave it his all in the final and deserved to win. However, the Saudi Pro League top-scorer and record-breaker couldn’t find the net when his team needed him on Friday night.
